An Ongoing Conceptual Investigation into Spectral and Spatial Dynamics

The Horizon Project is an ongoing artistic investigation into how a rigid, constant framework can generate an open-ended spectrum of visual possibilities. Inspired by the coastal geometry near my home in Denmark, the horizon line is not approached as a traditional landscape to be merely represented, but rather as a stable, objective point of reference.

Working within a strict, uniform format, each piece serves as a separate experiment exploring systemic variations in color theory, surface texture, rhythmic composition, and spatial depth. This body of work intentionally embraces structural constraint as a catalyst for creative freedom. By altering variables of light and material behavior, each painting develops as a distinct, standalone iteration within a highly cohesive and evolving ecosystem of contemporary abstract art.

Method & Material Process

Each inquiry begins on a structurally reinforced, double-primed masonite panel where a single charcoal line establishes the foundational architecture of the horizon. From this fixed point, the composition is developed iteratively—layering acrylic pigments, compressed charcoal, and structural crayons to capture specific atmospheric states and cloud formations. By deliberately constraining the geometry, the focus shifts entirely to the infinite variables of color refraction, weight, and light.

Technical Framework & Specifications

• Medium: Advanced mixed media integrating professional acrylics, water-soluble structural crayons and charcoal.

• Substrate: Fixed-format masonite panels, structurally reinforced with a custom rear wooden support frame for rigidity and archival longevity.

• Preparation: Double-primed with a premium white acrylic gesso ground to establish a pure white, canvas-equivalent surface for optimal color refraction.

• Dimensions: 61 × 122 cm.

• Surface Protection: Sealed with archival, non-yellowing, UV and dust-resistant varnish.

• Curation: Ongoing production, cataloged and sequentially numbered for authenticity.
